Guile and GitLab

Issue and merge request discussions, plus project documentation, read-only.

What Guile reads from GitLab

Guile reads the issues, merge requests and comments in the projects you choose, plus each project's README and documentation files. It never reads your code. GitLab's screen says the app can also change your projects, issues and code, and act as other users if you are an administrator. Guile never does: it only reads.

How to connect GitLab

  1. In Guile, open Apps and choose GitLab.
  2. Click Connect. A secure window from Pipedream (the service Guile uses to connect apps) opens.
  3. Leave Base API URL as gitlab.com. If your company runs its own GitLab, enter its address instead, like gitlab.example.com.
  4. Sign in to GitLab. GitLab's page may name Pipedream, not Guile; that is expected.
  5. Read what GitLab lists and click Authorize.
  6. Back in Guile, choose the projects Guile should read.

If something doesn't work

  • A project is missing: Guile reads projects the person who connected is a member of. Add them to the project, or connect as a member.
  • Your company's own GitLab refuses the sign-in: it may need the app registered by your GitLab administrator first. Write to hello@goguile.com and we will check it.
  • You want to stop Guile reading: in GitLab, select your avatar, then Edit profile > Access > Applications, and click Revoke next to the app under Authorized applications. Then disconnect GitLab in Guile.

Still stuck? Write to hello@goguile.com.
