Guile and Dropbox
PDF, Word, text notes and Paper files with Markdown export, read-only.
What Guile reads from Dropbox
Guile reads the text of PDF, Word, plain-text and Markdown files, and of Dropbox Paper documents that export as Markdown. Dropbox's screen may say the app can also add, change or delete files. Guile never does: it only reads.
How to connect Dropbox
- In Guile, open Apps > Add an app and choose Connect on Dropbox.
- In the Pipedream window (the service Guile uses to connect apps), sign in to Dropbox.
- Dropbox's screen names Pipedream and what it asks for. Choose Allow.
- Back in Guile, learning starts on every supported file and checks again each night.
- To read one folder instead, open Manage > Choose sources, untick Include all supported content, including new sources, type the folder's path under Folder path (includes subfolders), such as
/Client projects, and choose Save sources.
If something doesn't work
- Dropbox says the app is blocked for your team: a team admin opens the Admin console, opens the menu to the left of Dropbox, then Settings > Integrations, and allows the app or adds an exception. Then connect again.
- A file is missing: Guile skips spreadsheets, presentations, images, scanned PDFs, Paper docs that do not export as Markdown, and anything over 2 MB.
- To remove the grant in Dropbox as well: click your avatar, then Settings > Apps, the arrow beside the app, and Disconnect. In Guile, choose Disconnect.
