Guile and Box

PDF, Word and text files from the Box folders you can open, read-only.

What Guile reads from Box

Guile reads the text of the PDF, Word and text files you can open in Box. Box Notes, Excel and PowerPoint files wait for now. Box's approval screen may say Guile could also add, change or delete your files. Guile never does: it only reads. Each read counts toward your Box plan's monthly allowance for connected apps.

How to connect Box

  1. In Guile, open Apps and choose Box.
  2. Click Connect. A secure window opens from Pipedream, the service Guile uses to connect apps.
  3. Sign in to Box with the account whose files Guile should read.
  4. Read what Box shows and click Grant access to Box. Guile never sees your password.

If something doesn't work

  • Box says the app is "Disabled by administrator": copy the Client ID line from that page and send it to your Box admin. They open Admin Console > Platform > Platform Apps, choose User Authentication Apps, click Add +, paste the Client ID and choose Enable. Then connect again.
  • Some files are missing: Guile reads only files the person who connected can see, and skips Box Notes, Excel and PowerPoint files, scanned PDFs, images, audio, video and files over 2 MB.
  • You have a personal and a work Box account: sign out of Box in this browser and sign in with the work one.
